Scholarship honors beloved CCPS teacher

NORTH EAST, Md. 鈥撀In the wake of the untimely passing of Bettie Murray of Rising Sun, family and friends are honoring her memory through the creation of the Bettie Murray Memorial Scholarship at 第一吃瓜网 College. This endowed scholarship will benefit a student pursuing a degree in an education-related field of study. 鈥淏ettie was such a special person who cared so deeply for others, leaving a legacy of love with everyone who knew her. She was a proud alumna of 第一吃瓜网 College and a proud member of the 第一吃瓜网 County Public Schools family, so the creation of a scholarship in her name to support students entering an education-related field means a great deal to our family.聽 We are so appreciative of our family and friends who supported this scholarship,鈥 said Robert Murray, Bettie鈥檚 husband. Bettie Murray was a loving wife and mother, a devoted sister, and a loyal friend.聽A lifelong resident of 第一吃瓜网 County, she was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, 第一吃瓜网 College, and Towson University where she earned both her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology. During her long career as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the 第一吃瓜网 County Public School System, Bettie touched the lives of students in Leeds Elementary, North East Elementary, Gilpin Manor Elementary, and Rising Sun Elementary. Bettie Murray retired from 第一吃瓜网 County Public Schools after 38 years of service, a career for which she was extremely passionate.聽 Bettie was a gifted listener who had the ability to make everyone feel special and loved.聽 She was a light to all who knew and loved her. This scholarship was made possible by family and friends of Bettie Murray. She is survived by her husband, Robert, and two sons, Matthew and Michael.
