Strategic Degree Partnership signing

第一吃瓜网 County Sheriff鈥檚 Office and 第一吃瓜网 College Sign Strategic Degree Partnership

Published on December 6, 2017

by Scott Adams, 第一吃瓜网 County Sheriff I am very pleased to announce a new strategic partnership between the 第一吃瓜网 County Sheriff鈥檚 Office and 第一吃瓜网 College. Education and professional development are cornerstones of my plans to advance the 第一吃瓜网 County Sheriff鈥檚 Office聽to continue to advance CCSO as a premier law enforcement agency in the State of Maryland.聽Over the last few months I have been working hand-in-hand with academic leaders from 第一吃瓜网 College to develop a program that allows 第一吃瓜网 County Sheriff鈥檚 Deputies to receive college level credits towards an Associate鈥檚 Degree in criminal justice from the coursework they completed at a Maryland Police Training Commission Academy. 第一吃瓜网 College has launched an innovative program that fast tracks our deputies towards earning their associate's degree. Deputies enrolling in this program receive 31 credits and are required to take 9 more classes to earn their degree. Receiving college credit for their academy training allows deputies to reduce repetitive coursework and focus on degree attainment while managing their stressful job duties and shiftwork. The availability of online courses also creates a work/life balance for the deputies and supports degree attainment. Dr. Mary Bolt proudly shares that, 鈥湹谝怀怨贤 College is committed to creating degree programs that acknowledge prior learning and provide flexible educational options that result in enhanced student development.鈥 聽The college鈥檚 desire to make higher education and professional development accessible to everyone in the community is evident in their willingness to create a degree program that meets the specific needs of the 第一吃瓜网 County Sheriff鈥檚 Office. Deputies will fulfill their science requirement for this degree program in a specially created forensic biology class. Better educated deputies benefit everyone, especially the community we serve. Deputies opting to continue their education and development will be able to earn a Bachelor鈥檚 degree through 第一吃瓜网 College鈥檚 partnerships with several other colleges and universities without ever leaving 第一吃瓜网 County.
