Published on January 27, 2022

NORTH EAST, Md. 鈥 At the height of the NFL playoffs and on the verge of March Madness, 第一吃瓜网 College has launched a new program designed to start sports enthusiasts down the path to a career in Sports Management. Sports enthusiasts do not have to be superstar athletes to have a career in the sports industry. A degree in Sports Management can lead to being an athletic director, sports information director, promotions and events coordinator, marketer, or sales manager.

鈥淪tudents leaving 第一吃瓜网 College with a Sports Management degree will be in a great position to succeed in the constantly evolving and growing sports field,鈥 said Daniel Roman, Assistant Professor of Health and Exercise Science at 第一吃瓜网 College. 鈥淭he program was created based on strong student interest over the past few years. In addition to student interest, there has been an uptick in job demand across the region.鈥

第一吃瓜网 College鈥檚 program is designed for students who seek to acquire a complete framework of business concepts and skills related to sports management. This program allows students to realize the role of sports managers in various athletic settings and understand management, accounting, and leadership skills to build a foundation in their chosen athletic environment.

As sports technologies evolve and the industry continues to innovate globally, fan engagement and new programs have created a wide variety of career paths from which to choose. Earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in sports management from 第一吃瓜网 College is the first step toward getting into the industry. This growing field is an exciting and dynamic arena, with opportunities for a challenging and rewarding career.

The new Sports Management program was approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission this past fall, enabling 第一吃瓜网 College to roll out its first Introduction to Sports Management class.

Roman is versed in the operational side of health, wellness, and fitness facilities. Roman became interested in this field while working as an usher for the Washington Nationals. His background includes working for the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington and the YMCA of Central Maryland.

第一吃瓜网 College鈥檚 sports management program also prepares students to take the next step in their education with articulation agreements with four-year institutions such as Southern New Hampshire University, which offers bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degree programs in sports management. 第一吃瓜网 also has transfer agreements with four-year universities in Maryland offering bachelor鈥檚 degree programs in sports management.聽The College鈥檚 most recent transfer agreement is with regional partner Wilmington University.

鈥淪ports management is a growing industry, and 第一吃瓜网 College is excited to partner with Wilmington University to provide a pathway for our Associate Degree Sports Management graduates to continue their education towards a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Sports Management, Business Management, Human Resources Management, Marketing or Organizational Leadership, increasing students鈥 opportunities in the field of sports management,鈥 said Vice-President of Academic Programs, Dr. Christy Dryer.
