The Hall of Fame was established to recognize individuals who, through participation, support, or interest, made outstanding contributions to the College鈥檚 athletic programs or brought recognition to 第一吃瓜网 College.

The induction ceremony took place in the Technology Center’s conference room on the North East Campus, where the Hall of Fame committee – comprising alumni, current coaches, and staff – bestowed honors upon seven exceptional individuals: Victor Akinyanju, Jeff Bonsall, Sean Grugan, Jason Rust, Alexis Stubblefield, Brittanie (Walter) Krauss, and Craig Winder.

The Hall of Fame recognizes excellence across several categories, including student-athletes, coaches, administrators, teams, and community supporters. Inductees were selected based on criteria such as exceptional athletic performance, leadership, sportsmanship, and meaningful contributions to the success and growth of 第一吃瓜网 College athletics.

The Class of 2026 include:

Victor Akinyanju 鈥 Men鈥檚 Basketball (2002鈥2005)

Victor Akinyanju established himself as one of the most dominant rebounders and defensive forces in 第一吃瓜网 College men鈥檚 basketball history. During his time with the Seahawks, he averaged 9.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game, both program records, and finished his career as the program鈥檚 all-time leader in total rebounds (619) and blocks (179). Akinyanju also contributed 661 career points while helping lead the Seahawks to two Region 20 championships, one Maryland JUCO Conference championship, and two appearances in the NJCAA National Tournament. His performance earned him All-Region 20 and All-Maryland JUCO Conference honors.

After 第一吃瓜网, Akinyanju continued his career at Quinnipiac University, where he played in 49 games and averaged 7.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. During one standout performance, he set a program record with 22 free throw attempts in a single game while also collecting 21 rebounds, tied for the second-highest single-game total in Quinnipiac history.

Jeff Bonsall 鈥 Baseball (1982鈥1984)

Jeff Bonsall was a standout pitcher for the Seahawks during the 1983 and 1984 seasons, leading the team in wins in both years. His dominance on the mound placed him among the top five in program history for career wins and strikeouts. Bonsall earned All-Maryland JUCO Conference honors and was a two-time All-Region 20 selection during his career at 第一吃瓜网.

In 1984, Bonsall鈥檚 success culminated with NJCAA All-American recognition and selection in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Following his playing career, he remained closely connected to the sport by founding Bonsall Bats, a company that supplies bats to Major League organizations, collegiate programs, and youth leagues.

Jason Rust delivered one of the most prolific offensive careers in 第一吃瓜网 College baseball history. Playing outfield for the Seahawks during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, he compiled a remarkable .476 career batting average with 32 home runs and 123 RBIs. As a freshman, Rust led the entire NJCAA with a .514 batting average and 21 home runs. He followed that performance with a sophomore season in which he hit .450 with 57 RBIs and 11 home runs.

Rust earned All-Maryland JUCO Conference and All-Region 20 honors in both seasons and still ranks second all-time in career home runs at 第一吃瓜网. He later played at Delaware State University before finishing his collegiate career at Wilmington University, where he set numerous program records, including marks for hits, runs, RBIs, total bases, and home runs in a single game. Rust also became the first player in Wilmington history to complete a home run cycle in one game and earned NCAA Division II First Team ABCA All-American honors.

Alexis Stubblefield 鈥 Women鈥檚 Basketball (2015鈥2018)

Alexis Stubblefield was a key leader for the 第一吃瓜网 College women鈥檚 basketball program during the 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 seasons. A two-year team captain, she earned All-Maryland JUCO Conference and All-Region 20 honors while helping guide the Seahawks to a 44鈥15 record across two seasons, including back-to-back 20-win campaigns.

Stubblefield played a pivotal role in 第一吃瓜网鈥檚 2018 Region 20 Division II championship run, earning Tournament MVP honors while helping lead the team to the first NJCAA National Championship tournament appearance in program history. She finished her 第一吃瓜网 career with 714 points, 206 rebounds, 146 assists, and 96 steals, averaging 14.1 points per game during her sophomore season. After 第一吃瓜网, she continued her academic journey at Goldey-Beacom College and George Mason University and now works for the United States Government.

Brittanie (Walter) Krauss 鈥 Women鈥檚 Soccer & Softball (2009鈥2011)

Brittanie (Walter) Krauss excelled as a two-sport student-athlete at 第一吃瓜网 College, competing in both women鈥檚 soccer and softball from 2009 to 2011. On the soccer field, she was a two-year starter at defender, scoring four goals and earning All-Region 20 honors during her sophomore season.

Krauss also made a significant impact on the softball diamond as a two-year starting catcher. She was a two-time All-Maryland JUCO Conference and All-Region 20 selection while batting .445 with 72 runs and 71 RBIs during her career. Her offensive production included 17 doubles, seven triples, and seven home runs. Krauss helped lead the Seahawks to two Maryland JUCO and Region 20 championships and two NJCAA National Tournament appearances, while also earning NJCAA All-Academic honors twice. She later earned both her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees from Goldey-Beacom College and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Finance and Human Resources at the institution.

Craig Winder 鈥 Men鈥檚 Basketball (2002鈥2005)

Craig Winder was a standout performer for 第一吃瓜网 College men鈥檚 basketball and one of the program鈥檚 most accomplished scorers. During his time with the Seahawks, he helped lead the team to a Maryland JUCO Conference championship and two Region 20 titles, as well as two NJCAA National Tournament appearances. As a sophomore, he was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team and earned First Team NJCAA All-American honors.

Winder finished his 第一吃瓜网 career with 1,138 points, ranking seventh in program history, while also recording 275 rebounds, 147 assists, and 134 steals. He continued his collegiate career at the University of Texas, where he played alongside future NBA players Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, and P.J. Tucker. Winder later played professionally from 2008 to 2011 across several leagues, including the NBA G League, Australia, China, and Mexico. One of the highlights of his professional career came during the 2009鈥2010 season when he helped the Rio Grande Valley Vipers win the NBA G League championship, hitting the game-winning shot in Game 2 of the finals to secure the title.

NORTH EAST, Md: On Saturday, March 29, the 第一吃瓜网 College Athletics Hall of Fame proudly inducted its Class of 2025, celebrating the remarkable achievements of four icons who have left an indelible mark on the College’s athletic programs. This year’s honorees are recognized not only for their athletic excellence but also for their contributions to the creation, development, and growth of the College’s sports teams.

The induction ceremony took place in the Technology Center’s conference room on the North East Campus, where the Hall of Fame committee鈥攃omprising alumni, current coaches, and staff鈥攂estowed honors upon four exceptional individuals: John Rajaski, Joseph McCahon Jr., Mike Wilson, and Alicia Nutter.

The 第一吃瓜网 College Athletics Hall of Fame aims to recognize those who have made outstanding contributions to the College’s athletic programs, either through direct participation, support, or a passion for athletics that has helped elevate the College’s reputation.

John Rajaski: A Pioneer and Mentor

A native of Pittsburgh, John Rajaski served as the head men’s basketball coach at 第一吃瓜网 College from 1983 to 1995. His leadership on and off the court earned him the Maryland JUCO Conference Coach of the Year award in 1988.

Rajaski’s career in education spanned more than 40 years. He completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania before earning master’s degrees from Western New Mexico University and the University of Illinois. His coaching journey took him from Gettysburg High School, where he coached boys’ basketball, to Springfield College in Illinois, where he also coached basketball, tennis, and baseball.

At 第一吃瓜网 College, Rajaski not only coached men’s basketball, tennis, and golf but also served as a Health and Physical Education professor until his retirement in 2009.

Although Coach Rajaski passed away recently, his legacy was honored at the ceremony by his wife, Sandy Rajaski, who shared heartfelt memories of her husband’s love for coaching.

鈥淚t鈥檚 my pleasure to be here this evening to honor John,鈥 said Sandy Rajaski. 鈥淗e always said, 鈥業 can鈥檛 believe they pay me to do what I love.鈥 He loved to teach, he loved to coach, and he found joy in the process of basketball, not just the games. He cherished the opportunity to teach life lessons through the sport and help his players grow both as athletes and as individuals.鈥

Joseph McCahon Jr.: A Star on and off the Court

Joseph McCahon Jr. was a key member of 第一吃瓜网 College’s 1988 Maryland JUCO Championship team under Coach Rajaski. Hailing from Pennsylvania, McCahon played basketball at Bishop Shannon High School before continuing his career with the Seahawks. Over his two seasons at 第一吃瓜网 College, he scored 729 points, ranking him 19th in career points, and added 241 assists (15th all-time) and 350 rebounds (18th all-time).

After his time at 第一吃瓜网, McCahon transferred to Salisbury University, where he earned team MVP honors for the 1989-1990 season and finished his career ranked fifth in the school’s history for three-point shooting percentage.

鈥淢y time at 第一吃瓜网 College was truly life-changing,鈥 said McCahon. 鈥淏asketball taught me the importance of hard work, perseverance, and teamwork. The lessons I learned on the court have shaped my life, and I hope my journey can inspire the next generation of student-athletes.鈥

McCahon also shared how the discipline and resilience he developed through basketball helped him overcome a battle with cancer at the age of 25.

Mike Wilson: Dominating the Diamond

Mike Wilson’s impact on 第一吃瓜网 College baseball is legendary. Originally starting his career at the University of Delaware, Wilson transferred to 第一吃瓜网 College for the 2004-2005 season, where he quickly made his mark. As a freshman, he played in 38 of 53 games, posting an impressive .402 batting average with seven home runs and 51 RBIs. His performance earned him All-Region 20 honors and set the stage for an even more remarkable sophomore season.

鈥淭he 2006 season was unforgettable,鈥 said 第一吃瓜网 College Athletic Director Ed Durham. 鈥淢ike鈥檚 performance that year was nothing short of awe-inspiring.鈥

Wilson nearly claimed the NJCAA baseball triple crown, leading the nation in home runs (22) and RBIs (84), while finishing fifth with a .473 batting average. He was named First Team All-Maryland JUCO Conference, Player of the Year for the conference, and was selected First Team and Player of the Year for NJCAA鈥檚 Region 20.

Ultimately, Wilson was named NJCAA Player of the Year, a prestigious honor given to the top player among more than 500 two-year colleges with baseball programs.

Wilson continued his successful career at Wilmington University and completed his undergraduate studies.

鈥淢y years at 第一吃瓜网 College were some of the best of my life,鈥 Wilson said. 鈥淎cademically and athletically, this place truly felt like home. The staff and faculty were incredibly supportive, and I鈥檓 grateful for everything they did to help me succeed.鈥

Alicia Nutter: The Heart of Athletics Operations

For over two decades, Alicia Nutter has been the backbone of the 第一吃瓜网 College athletic department. Serving as the Athletic Services Specialist since 2006, Nutter plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring smooth team travel schedules, lodging, and financial logistics. According to Athletic Director Ed Durham, Nutter鈥檚 contributions have been invaluable to the success of 第一吃瓜网鈥檚 student-athletes.

鈥淪he鈥檚 been a constant source of support for our coaches and athletes, and her dedication to improving the student-athlete experience is unparalleled,鈥 said Durham.

In addition to her operational expertise, Nutter has raised over $90,000 for student-athletic scholarships by organizing the College鈥檚 annual golf outing. She is also committed to streamlining processes within the department to better serve the needs of the student-athletes.

鈥淥ver the years, I鈥檝e taken on many responsibilities, and I鈥檝e learned that every job鈥攚hether big or small鈥攑lays a crucial role in helping our students succeed,鈥 said Nutter. 鈥淚鈥檓 proud to be part of this amazing team and contribute to the success of our student-athletes.鈥

NORTH EAST, Md: Thornton Spellman鈥檚 journey in collegiate basketball began in 1980 at 第一吃瓜网 College, a time when the game looked very different from what it does today. There were no shot clocks, and the floor was made of rubber鈥攁 detail that he fondly remembers for helping him 鈥済et up鈥 during those crucial moments on the court.

鈥淲e had some set play, which they don鈥檛 set up the ball anymore. I mean, it鈥檚 鈥渞un and gun鈥 now. I wish they鈥檇 let us 鈥渞un and gun,鈥 but it was more structured. In that time, it was a game plan focused on motion offenses and man-to-man defense that denied the weak side and kept a body on your man,鈥 said Spellman, who played two seasons for the Seahawks, leading his team with an impressive 13.7 rebounds per game and 98 blocked shots for the season.

Under the leadership of then Coach Kevin Moran, Spellman鈥檚 game evolved as the coaching staff worked specifically with Spellman on the pick and roll. 鈥淐oach would tell me, 鈥楾hornton, you gotta dunk that,鈥欌 recalled Spellman. With teammates who could shoot, Spellman鈥檚 role became crucial to the team鈥檚 success as he dominated the paint, setting screens, and crashing the boards.

In 1980, 第一吃瓜网 College was only in its 12th year, and the small campus environment suited Spellman and his teammates, who were mostly from Delaware. The campus consisted of just two main buildings, and some classes were held in trailers, creating an environment where everyone relied on one another. With no dorm rooms, he lived with seven other athletes in an off-campus house.

For Spellman, those years at 第一吃瓜网 College were about more than basketball; they were formative years that shaped not only his athletic career but also his life journey.

鈥淚 had the only car,鈥 he laughed. 鈥淲e piled four in the front and four in the back. It taught us a lot about responsibility and teamwork.鈥 Those moments helped Spellman grow both as a player and a person, and even though the campus has expanded and transformed since those days, he still fondly remembers it as a 鈥渉ome away from home.鈥

After graduation, he transitioned to a career that combined his technical skills and leadership ability. Spellman worked for Procter & Gamble as an industrial mechanic, a role that led to a long and successful career with the Fortune 500 company. 鈥淚 never went back to school after 第一吃瓜网 College, but Procter & Gamble had a company-sponsored program in industrial engineering, which worked out really well for me,鈥 he explained.

Spellman鈥檚 love of the game never waned, and he embraced teaching the next generation the skills of the game he enjoyed so much. In his spare time, he spent 20 years coaching girls鈥 basketball at Dover High School. Reflecting on his coaching experience, Spellman believes basketball is more than just winning games; it鈥檚 about character and leadership.

As Thornton Spellman looks back on his time at 第一吃瓜网 College, he is proud of how far the institution has come. 鈥淚 come back every year and don鈥檛 recognize the place from my time. It鈥檚 grown so much since the 鈥80s,鈥 he said with a smile. 鈥淚t feels like a four-year school now. The excitement, the energy 鈥 seeing this school thriving is great.鈥

Spellman鈥檚 time at 第一吃瓜网 College not only shaped his basketball career but also his approach to life and work. Whether coaching or reminiscing with old friends, he remains a testament to the power of sport, community, and the enduring bonds that form through shared experiences.

NORTH EAST, Md: 第一吃瓜网 College alumnus Khalid Gates lives a reality of which young men can only dream. He recently finished his first season playing professional basketball with KK Marsonia, a team in the Croatian Prva Liga (Premiere League), where he experienced the unique and often challenging aspects of basketball in Europe.

鈥淚t was great playing in Croatia,鈥 he said, reflecting on his time with KK Marsonia. 鈥淭he European basketball game is quite a different style than here in the U.S.鈥 The significant distinction he noticed was the level of physicality. In Europe, the rules allow for much more contact, which, in turn, creates a tougher and more demanding style of play.

As a 6鈥7鈥 forward from Washington, DC, Gates was up to the challenge and embraced the journey that led him to competing against teams throughout Europe.

The physicality was a challenge, and the game鈥檚 tempo was faster. 鈥淭heir style is much faster, getting up and down the court,鈥 said Gates. He went on to talk about how this up-tempo, high-energy game contrasts sharply with the more structured nature of American basketball, where plays are often set up meticulously.

In Europe, the approach is more about running the ball and exploiting fast breaks. 鈥淭he European style is not to set up plays, but more 鈥榬un and gun鈥,鈥 Gates explained. 鈥淲hile some teams did set up plays, the overall focus was on rapid transitions, creating an exciting and dynamic atmosphere on the court.鈥

Gates returned to 第一吃瓜网 College recently for the annual alumni basketball game. 鈥淐oming back to 第一吃瓜网 College and getting off the highway, I have been flooded with memories of how everyone here has been important in helping me get to where I am today,鈥 said Gates, who added that returning to familiar places and people who shaped him as a player and a person is an incredible experience. He expressed gratitude for the coaching staff, former players and his host family the Murrows, who shaped him along the way and whose support during his time at 第一吃瓜网 College helped to mold him into the player he is today.

鈥淚 am so happy for Khalid, to see his development from the time he started here at 第一吃瓜网 as a 17-year-old to where he is now. It is a true testament to the work and dedication he has put in to become the player he is. Not only has he grown as a player, but as a person as well. For all of his success he is a humble person. I am extremely proud of him,鈥 said 第一吃瓜网 College head men鈥檚 basketball coach Ed Durham.

Off the court in Croatia, Gates had to adjust to a very different lifestyle. Croatia, with its quieter, more rural, and laid-back atmosphere, was a world apart from the bustling energy of Washington, DC. 鈥淚t鈥檚 definitely a different world,鈥 Gates said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a quieter lifestyle and starkly contrasted to what I am accustomed to back here (in the United States).鈥

The language barrier was one of the more challenging aspects of living in Croatia. While Gates tried to learn some Croatian, it proved difficult to pick up the language, making day-to-day communication a challenge. 鈥淚 tried to speak some Croatian, but it was hard, and I didn鈥檛 really pick up the language,鈥 he admitted. Despite this, the experience of living in a foreign country was eye-opening and enriched his global perspective.

Another aspect of playing in Croatia was the extensive travel. The team was constantly on the move, with each game requiring a five- or six-hour drive. Despite the long hours on the road, Croatia鈥檚 central location within Europe allowed Gates to visit many different countries.

During this time, Gates earned recognition for his outstanding play. He was named Player of the Week while also leading the league in scoring, a remarkable achievement highlighting his growing talent. The season was not just about playing basketball but also about showcasing his skills on a bigger stage, which will undoubtedly play a key role in his future career.

Prior to his time in Croatia, Gates had the opportunity to tour China, playing for an American travel team that competed against top-tier Chinese teams. His time there was primarily for exposure, allowing him to demonstrate his abilities to regional scouts and coaches. 鈥淚 was there for two or three months, so it was almost like a recruiting thing,鈥 Gates said. The experience of playing in China further helped him hone his skills and build his reputation as a player.

With new management and highlight reels showcasing his Croatian performance, Gates is now looking forward to the next step in his career. 鈥淚 have options now; I鈥檓 just waiting to see which ones will benefit me the most,鈥 he said. His future is full of possibilities, and he鈥檚 eager to see where it takes him.

Gates remains focused on what comes next. Despite all he鈥檚 accomplished, he still wants to 鈥済et away鈥 and continue his journey. With the support of former teammates, coaches, and mentors at 第一吃瓜网 College, Gates is ready for whatever comes next in his basketball career. Gates finished his career at 第一吃瓜网 College with 671 career points, 452 coming from the 2021-2022 season.

As Gates awaits his next assignment, one thing is clear: His time in Croatia, along with his international experiences, has not only made him a better basketball player but has also shaped him into a more well-rounded individual, ready to tackle whatever challenges the future holds.
